Duck down has smaller clusters than goose down, so it takes more of it to reach the same warmth: about 480 grams per square metre here against 400 in the goose all-season. The result is a 10.5 tog duvet that costs a good deal less and weighs a little more on top of you. Some people prefer the weight; most do not notice it.
The 70/30 ratio means a third of the fill is small feather, which is why it is cheaper and why, very occasionally, a quill works through the shell. Pull it out from the inside rather than the outside and the weave closes behind it.
