Boiled wool starts as a loose knit and is washed hot until the fibres lock into a dense, felted cloth. The result does not fray, does not pill and barely lets wind through, which is why it is the throw for a garden chair in October or a cold reading corner. It has a dry, matte, slightly rough surface, closer to a coat than to a blanket.
It is heavier and stiffer than the fine wool throw and it drapes less; it sits on you rather than falling around you. Hot water will felt it further and shrink it, so it is the one throw in the range we say to dry clean.
